I have a friend in California that wants to give me one of her unused tickets that she’s purchased as a California resident. We will be coming from Tennessee in a few weeks-can she transfer that ticket to me, and I can use it even though I am not from CA?

    Hey there, Kelly!

Welcome to planDisney and we appreciate you stopping by with your question! It looks like your magical Holiday trip to the Disneyland Resort is coming up very soon, so we're going to want to make sure that you're set up with a valid ticket and Park reservation.

Ordinarily, regular unused tickets may be transferred to another Guest simply by linking that ticket to their Disneyland account so that they have access to it. Once it is used, the same individual must continue using that ticket for the extent of its period of validity. If the ticket that your friend wants to give you is a regular Theme Park Ticket, then it should be okay for you to use.

On the other hand, special ticket offers such as California Resident Tickets and Southern California Resident Tickets will require proof of residency and the Cast Members will ask for a valid form of ID before the ticket is activated. These are unable to be transferred to other Guests who do not meet the residency requirements.

Since your visit is coming up and you will need a valid ticket and Park reservation, I would recommend figuring out what type of ticket your friend purchased. When I check the current Offers and Discounts, I don't see a California Resident Ticket Offer that is valid over your stated visit date. If your friend is local, one option would be to show up in person at the Main Entrance Ticket Booth to upgrade the ticket to a regular ticket if needed. Regardless, please make sure that you also have a park reservation because you'll need that and a valid ticket for entry.

The Holiday Season is a beautiful time to visit the Happiest Place on Earth. The decorations and overall atmosphere are so enchanting and will help put you in the spirit of the season! Be sure to study the Foodie Guide from the Disney Parks Blog to plan out your snacking!

Kelly, I hope that this was helpful for you and that you have a truly magical trip to the Disneyland Resort! Please reach out to us again anytime if you have any more questions because you're always welcome at planDisney.

Wishing You a Great, Big, Beautiful Tomorrow!

Meet the Panelist: Al, California

Ahoy there from the heart of Steinbeck Country in central California! I've been visiting the Disneyland Resort since childhood and fell in love with the sense of absolute immersion that the Imagineers have achieved. My favorite attraction is Pirates of the Caribbean because where else can you go from a California day to an evening boat ride in the bayou with "salty old pirates"? I'm a veterinarian and an all-around Disney geek and enthusiast. I'd love to help you plan your next Disneyland trip! Learn More About Al
