Ahoy there Patricia Joyce, and welcome aboard planDisney!
If you know the feeling of walking past the irresistible buttery smell of popcorn at theme parks across all of the global Disney Destinations, you can imagine how much more amplified it is when you're within the closed space on board the
Disney Cruise Line fleet! Living and working on board for so many years, that tantalizing smell would waft its way from places like the
Walt Disney Theatre around showtime or even the
Buena Vista Theatre for moviegoers with the munchies.
On my most recent cruise, I took the opportunity to speak with the Crew Members who sell the
popcorn at locations like Preludes about the ingredients and how it is prepared; they let me know that similar to the theme parks, it is freshly popped with an oil blend (at Walt Disney World Resort this is typically coconut or canola oil) and that it is vegan and therefore did not contain butter. (Something that you'll also want to be careful with is any popcorn you may order through
Room Service, as this has been pre-packaged in my experience and does in fact contain dairy.)
I will however caution that in my years of sailing, Food & Beverage offerings and policies have a tendency to vary at times between ships as well as wherever in the world you may be sailing so with folks like my nephew who may be
sensitive to specific allergens or have specific dietary needs, it's always best to check early on the first day of your cruise and ask the Crew Members to confirm or show you a list of ingredients as these are always subject to change without prior notice. (I've observed fellow seafaring folks be surprised to discover when food offerings are different from the last time that they've cruised, and the last thing you'd want is anyone feeling unwell as you sail away from land!) I hope that this was helpful Patricia Joyce, and we look forward to seeing you back again in search of any other wisdom from the waves here at planDisney.
Wishing you fair winds and smooth seas on your February voyage!
