Thanks for taking the time to visit the Disney Parks Moms Panel, Brent!
As we waited for a ferryboat one evening to take us from Magic Kingdom Park back to
Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa this summer, my sister said, "You know what would be nice is if we could walk back to our resort right now." Well, apparently she wasn't the only one with this idea, because coincidentally cranes showed up two days later to begin work!
Since I have a stay booked at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa for this fall, I've been doing some research on this project myself. The walkway has been under consideration for some time. Still, it never got underway until recently because it entails building a bridge over a canal that leads to the storage area where the
Electrical Water Pageant is kept. The problem was solved by designing a rotating drawbridge, which will allow the pedestrian bridge to move back and forth for boats coming in and out of the canal. A saw some recent construction pictures online, and it looks like this bridge is nearing completion, but the walkway still needs some work. When I called Guest Services to inquire, they were very hesitant to give me an actual date, but I think it's safe to say it should be done by early next year at the latest. Maybe someone should sprinkle a little pixie dust on it, as this would be a super magical way to end the day after a viewing of
Happily Ever After during our upcoming trips!
Please feel free to write back, Brent, if you have any more questions. We hope to see ya' real soon!
