Hi.. I will be in Florida from Jan 14- Jan 30 2009. Iam planning on doing disney from Jan 21-Jan 30 to avoid Presidents weekend crowds. But with the super bowl in Tampa right around the corner do you think it will affect crowds or did I pick a good week?

Because of my husband's job, we were able to go to the Super Bowl in Tampa in 2001 to watch the Giants lose to the Bills :-(.  (I know, poor us.) Because the Tampa airport was completely overloaded, we had to fly into Orlando -- and I have to say the Orlando airport was pretty packed that weekend too.

Of course we couldn't be that close to WDW without stopping in, so hubby and I spent a glorious day all alone at Disney's Hollywood Studios (then MGM Studios) on the Monday after the Super Bowl. It was packed and there were lots of football jerseys and commemorative Super Bowl T's on the park goers that day. So, my personal experience tells me that a Tampa Super Bowl does have some impact on WDW crowd levels -- hey, that's why I was there. But I'm guessing that it's not the whole week that's affected, probably just Thursday to Monday, as people filter in/out for the game. I think the majority of folks who are able to attend the game are not families who want to linger at WDW (really, who can get more than a couple of tickets). They're mostly men who have to stay an extra day or two in Florida because there are only so many flights available.

I have also been at WDW for six of the last seven President's Weeks. I'd say that if I had to pick, I choose the Super Bowl week. The parks will probably be empty during the actual game. Or if you want to watch it, try the ESPN Zone at the Boardwalk. I'm sure that's the place to be during any big game.
