Greetings to you, Chelsee, and welcome to planDisney!
We're so glad that you came to us with your question. It sounds like you have a young Padawan who is just beginning his Jedi training! What a wonderful way to introduce him to the ways of the Jedi by getting him his very own lightsaber. It would be my pleasure to walk you through the process.
If your youngling is not quite ready for the ultra immersive experience at
Savi's Workshop, then making a custom lightsaber at
The Star Trader or
Star Wars Trading Post is a great alternative. This is a hands on type of experience that your five year old will absolutely love! There is usually a Cast Member who is available to assist your Padawan with assembling his very first lightsaber and will guide him through the process and answer any questions either one of you might have.
When it's your turn to assemble your lightsaber, you'll see multiple bins of materials that you may use. There are so many different parts that your son will truly be able to make a souvenir that's unique and his own! Moving from left to right, you'll first select an emitter, which is the piece right before the blade. Next, he'll get to choose the color of the blade and then the hilt. Here's where it gets fun because he'll get to choose multiple sleeve parts that will go over the hilt and really customize it to his liking. Just make sure that the button to activate the lightsaber is accessible through the sleeve. Finally, he'll select the end-cap to finish off the lightsaber!
I'm really excited for the both of you to try this out and you have to record his reaction to getting his first lightsaber!
Season of the Force will also be going on during your visit, so you'll be fully immersed in Star Wars while you're there! If you happen to be exploring Galaxy's Edge, be on the lookout for the new wandering BDX Droids as well!
Chelsee, I hope that you found this informative and that it helps you plan your magical trip to the Happiest Place on Earth! Please feel free to come back if you need anything else from us. We'd love to hear from you again and we wish you a truly wonderful trip!
May The Force Be With You,
-Al
