We are going on our first WDW vacation next month. My ? is how much spending money do you thing I should give to my dd(age7) and my ds(age 4). We will be there for a week.

    Kim,

Congratulations on your first Disney vacation!  I hope you have a great time.

There are a couple of different ways this can be done.  I know a few people who give their kids a certain amount per day - $10/day and that's theirs to do with as they please.  This could work if your children ask for things a lot, as they'd get something new every day.  The downside is that they could spend it every day, getting a lot of small 'lesser' items, rather than saving it up for something big.  However, I think you may find that they are getting more money this way, as a small amount like $5 won't buy them much.

We opt to give the girls a set amount per trip.  We then leave that in our room until the last few days of our vacation, so they aren't tempted to buy every little thing they see.  They have a little notebook where we write down whatever souvenirs strike their fancy, along with the price and exact location, so we don't forget later.  Think of it as a gigantic Santa list!  Toward the end of the trip we go over it again and they can decide what they really want.  Often things are on that list that they no longer even remember!

All that said, my daughters usually have $50 each per vacation and that seems to work out fine.  A few times they've wanted something bigger and we've shipped in a few dollars, but the majority of the time they don't spend all they are given.

For a point of reference, Mouse Ears start at around $8, tees around $20, banks around $14.  And of course the sky is the limit for what is possible.  There is a great spot in DOwntown Disney where everything is $10 or less, so you might want to check that out to stretch their dollar as well.

    Have a great vacation!
