We have our first trip planned in June for our 4 year old son and really want to have a dining experience with the characters, but I'm curious what is the cancellation policy for dining reservations, just in case?

    Hi Chrissy,

Disney now requires a credit card number to secure all table service dining reservations, including character meals. There is a 24-hour cancellation policy. Guests who don't show up for their meals are assessed a $10 per person fee on their credit cards.

I completely understand the unpredictable nature of 4-year-olds. Even the best laid plans can become unraveled if a nap gets missed or a favorite toy gets lost. With a small child, my suggestion is to make your character meal a breakfast rather than a lunch or dinner. Kids are usually fresher and more predictable in the morning when they're well rested.

There are character breakfasts at Chef Mickey's at the Contemporary, Ohana at the Polynesian, 1900 Park Fare at the Grand Floridian, Cape May Cafe at the Beach Club, Crystal Palace and Cinderella's Royal Table in the Magic Kingdom, Hollywood & Vine at Disney's Hollywood Studios, Tusker House at the Animal Kingdom, and Akershus at Epcot. I'd try to choose one that's fairly close to your hotel so that transportation issues will be minimized. And while it may seem counter-intuitive, I might give your son a very small pre-breakfast snack (a few Cheerios or half a banana) so he doesn't get cranky during the trip to the restaurant.

Good luck with your planning. Please let us know what else we can do to help.
