This will be our first trip to Disneyworld and want to take tons of pictures but I am concerned about my camera getting ruined while on rides. What is the best way to handle this or am I over worrying about nothing?

I really think you're worrying over nothing. Over the years I've taken probably 10,000 photos at WDW. (No, I'm not exaggerating for effect.) I've taken at least half a dozen different cameras with me to Disney World from drugstore disposables to a Canon SD20 Digital SLR with accessories. I always take my cameras with me on the rides and I have never had even a scratch on them due to anything ride or Disney related.

I did have one camera fatality at WDW, a lovely little Olympus. It shattered into several pieces when my then three year old daughter grabbed it out of my hand and then dropped it while we were on line for a Cinderella character greeting in Toontown. I ended up replacing it with a similar model at the Camera Center on Main Street in the Magic Kingdom. The cast members there were very helpful with getting me set up and usable on the spot.

As far as your trip goes ... there are two rides at WDW where there is the potential of water hitting your camera: Splash Mountain at the Magic Kingdom and Kali River Rapids at the Animal Kingdom. For these, I always just put my camera into a plastic bag before I board the ride. On the less adventuresome rides I often have my camera out to take photos of the attraction. For thrill rides, I keep it in a case in my backpack. Again, I have never had any problems at all with any of these situations.

My best advice ... keep the strap around your neck while on character greeting lines :-)

Hope you get some great shots!
