    Hi- first trip to Disney this month-staying at the PoP centruy resort...now wondering WHY we didn't spend the extra $$ to get a suite/villa. we have a 1 & 3 year old and now all the suites are booked- tips for sharing ONE room for sleeping/naps?? thank

    When my kids napped, they always needed a quiet, dark room without me in it. Obviously this is not ideal in a one room situation. For naptime, my husband and I flipped a coin to see who stayed in the room and who got to explore the resort or go swim. The person in the room would camp out in the bathroom and read. I would take a pillow and blanket from the bed and make a little nest in the (dry) tub and read or do a crossword puzzle until the kids were asleep. Once they were asleep I could usually move around the room a bit more.

    Another solution would be to bring a small booklight and sit in a corner of the room quietly and read while the kids rest. Unfortunately, this always distracted my children. One more thing I've seen tried is having a baby monitor in the room with the parent sitting just outside the door while the kids are falling asleep. This works best with a ground floor room with a patio right next to it.

    In retrospect, picturing myself hiding from my kids in the bathroom is pretty amusing, but I will say that these are some of my nicest family memories. There's something so cozy about us all being huddled together. Since we joined the Disney Vacation Club, we stay in the villa rooms, so we have more space, but I do sometimes miss that one-room insularity. 

    A  funny story: Two years ago we ended up spending a night with all of us in one room at the Contemporary. During the day we had been on the Buzz Lightyear ride where I had purchased a voice altering toy that made you sound like an alien when you spoke into it. So, we were all asleep in one room except my daughter, who was 9 at the time. She took the voice machine and during the night and said into my sleeping hubby's ear, "We've come to take you away," in the creepy alien voice. He must have jumped a mile. We still laugh about it. I only think this priceless family moment would only have happened in the one-room set up. So, try to make the best of it, find the humor, and enjoy your time together.
