First trip to Disney this June! We are a family of 5 and will be traveling to a couple other resorts to dine. Heard it might be easier to take a taxi but don't want to spend too much. Can a taxi fit 5 and about how much from POR to Grand Floridian?

My family of five often rarely has a car at WDW and we often dine in the various resorts in the evenings. Our strategy is to use the free Disney transportation on the way TO dinner. Then on the way back to our hotel after dinner, we often take a taxi. This gets the sleepy kids into bed a bit quicker.

There are van-sized taxis that seat up to nine people that readily serve the WDW resorts area. They are often among the regular taxis waiting at the resorts to pick up guests. However, if one is not waiting there, simply ask the bell services desk at your dinner location to call one for you. It should be there within a matter of minutes. There is no premium pricing for a van over a standard cab. They are all the same price.

Prices can change, but about the most you're going to pay to get from one point to another at WDW is $20. A few months ago, my family took a cab from the Grand Floridian to the Animal Kingdom Lodge -- the resorts most distant from each other. The cost was $18.40. Rides between locations that are closer to each other will cost less. My ballpark guess on the price from POR to the GF is about $15.

My rationale for spending money on cabs is that even if we take three or four $15 taxis during our Disney vacation, it still works out to be less expensive than renting a car, and you don't have to deal with the hassle of returning the car at the airport.

    Have a great trip!
