Hi. This is our first trip. 1. If we carry a backpack in the park, is there a safe place to leave it before getting on a ride? 2. Is drinking water free in the parks? Snacks only allows for one beverage? Heading down in Aug. so hydration is important

You can bring a backpack with you on all the rides. I would suggest that you do this if you have anything valuable (such as camera equipment) in the pack. Several rides have special pouches or bins in the ride vehicle for you to stow your gear. But with most rides and attractions, you can just keep your bag on the seat next to you or on the floor in front of you.

If for some reason you don't want to bring the pack on the rides with you, you could rent a locker. There are lockers available for rent at the entrances to each of the theme parks (and at the water parks). Prices can change, but in early 2008 a small locker cost $10.00 per day with a $5.00 rebate upon key return.

You are correct that keeping hydrated is important in the Florida sun. There are water fountains located throughout the parks. You can also ask for a cup of water at any counter service restaurant at WDW and they will give you this for free. Many guests bring a refillable water bottle from home and periodically refill it at the water fountains. Other guests stop at a supermarket on their way to WDW and purchase pre-bottled water there to bring into the parks. This ends up being cheaper than purchasing bottled water at WDW.
