First time trying to visit during the holidays. I saw people talking about visiting the resorts. Can we do tat if we are not staying there? What would we be visiting them for? Are there activities we should sign up for?

Hiya Laurie and Welcome to planDisney!

Heigh Ho, Heigh Ho it's off to Walt Disney World Resort you go, and at the absolute best time of the yEAR to visit as well! You are in for a true treat with all the special events, holiday entertainment options and festive decorations.

It has become a bit of a Disney holiday tradition to hop around the Disney Resorts Collection hotels and enjoy all the amazing decorations. Each resort has its own unique decorations and the personality of the resort shows with every light and ornament that is hung. You do not need to worry about making reservations or signing up in advance. The decorations are open and free for all to enjoy, whether you are a Guest at the resort or not. Resort hopping is a perfect way to spend either a few hours, or an entire day, outside the theme parks.

During your "hops", you will be treated to gorgeous African themed wooden decorations at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge or whimsical sports themed ornaments and wreaths at Disney's All-Star Sports Resort. A visit over to Disney's Port Orleans - French Quarter Resort will have you wondering if you have stepped on to Bourbon Street in New Orleans and the massive tree and roaring fire at Disney's Wilderness Resort will have you looking for the nearest ski hill. And I have not even mentioned the amazing life size gingerbread creations found at a number of the deluxe resorts. You definitely do not want to miss the carousel at Disney's Beach Club Resort or the gigantic house made completely out of gingerbread at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. Not only can you soak in the amazing sights and smells, the house is actually a shop that sells the homemade gingerbread treats. It is the perfect place to enjoy a gingerbread shingle and cup of coffee while listening to the Christmas music and enjoying the tree. Don't forget to grab a few extra treats for those back home.

An added bonus is if you map out your resort visits correctly you may be able to enjoy the evening firework shows from one of the resorts. For example, Disney's Polynesian Resort offers amazing views of Disney Enchantment at Magic Kingdom, and the bridge between Disney's Boardwalk Resort and Disney's Beach Club Resort is a perfect place to enjoy portions of Harmonious. One last thought-be sure to plan time at Disney Springs as well. Not only will you be able to tackle your holiday shopping list, but you will definitely want to check out the Christmas Tree Trail

I hope this helps you "hop" into plenty of holiday chEAR. If I can help with any additional planning questions, please stop back and see me

Hope to see ya real soon,
    Margaret
