Hiya, Jonathan, and welcome to planDisney!
How exciting that you're planning a Walt Disney World vacation! As a wheelchair user, I fully understand how important it is to be as well-prepared as possible when visiting a new destination, and you've absolutely come to the right place for helpful tips and guidance!
Disney World is incredibly
mobility-friendly, which is one of the many reasons my family loves visiting again and again. All of
Disney's transportation options — including buses, the monorail, skyliner, and water taxis — are designed to accommodate ECVs. The member of your party can simply drive their ECV directly onto the vehicle and can even remain seated in their mobility device for the duration of the ride. It's all about making the experience as seamless and convenient as possible!
Before your visit, you'll want to make sure you download the
My Disney Experience app and familiarize yourself with the accessibility services located within the app. Here's how to access the feature:
- On the Home Screen, tap the three horizontal bars at the bottom of your screen.
- Scroll down and select "Accessibility and Health Services."
- Continue scrolling until you reach the section that says, "Guest Services at Walt Disney World Resort."
- From there, choose "Services for Guests with Mobility Disabilities."
This screen will be your go-to source for all your accessibility needs while exploring the parks. One of my favorite features is the ability to view the service and access options for each Disney World attraction. For example, there are even some attractions that allow your party member to remain in their ECV should they choose!
Before I wrap up, here's one final tip: be sure to check out the
Theme Park Guide Maps for Guests with Disabilities. These maps are a great way to familiarize yourself with the layout of the parks and will also highlight designated wheelchair and ECV viewing areas for parades and fireworks that you can take advantage of during your visit.
I hope this information has been helpful, Jonathan! I could chat about accessibility accommodations all day long, so please feel free to come back with any other questions you might have!
Magical wishes,
Kami
