Hello, Jen! I'm so excited that you are planning your very first
run-cation!
Every yEAR, over 25,000 princesses lace up their sneakers to participate in the three days of races during the
Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend. My littlest Mouseketeer is finally ready for the challenge, and he's agreed to run his first 5K with me. One of the best parts of any runDisney race is the amazing costumes-- if you see a tiny Prince Charming trotting alongside a much bigger Cinderella, then make sure to say hello!
The viewing areas for spectators during the 5K are very slim. The race starts and finishes in the Epcot parking lot, so if your Fairy Godmothers are up for it, they can board the runDisney bus with you (the stroller should be perfectly fine) to the race start. All the races start at 5:30 AM, and you'll want to be on the bus no later than 3:30 AM if you are staying at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel (if you are driving, plan to be in the Epcot parking lot by 4:30 AM). The 10K has better viewing opportunities right around mile 4, situated along
Disney's BoardWalk and Disney's
Yacht and
Beach Club Resorts. They would need to get to these locations no later than 6:00 AM (and remind them to bring their homemade signs to chEAR you on).
In the next week or so, visit the runDisney website, where they will post a Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend Digital Event Guide, which includes race-related tidbits, including transportation and spectator information. Here's a Moms Panel tip: Runner Tracking is available for friends and family to track 10K and Half Marathon participants. Look for instructions on how to do this in the Digital Event Guide or at the
runDisney Health & Fitness Expo. Also, if you want a sneak peek at the bling you'll soon be sporting, hard over to the
Disney Parks Blog.
If you have any more questions before your races, please feel free to write back, Jen. See ya' real soon!
