Ahoy Tom!
Congratulations on your first magical voyage onboard Disney Cruise Line! I hope it's the first of many sailings with Capt. Mickey!
Sitting in a lounge chair, feeling the warmth of the sun and gazing out at the turquoise waters is also my idea of paradise! You can definitely enjoy beach time during your time ashore, and I'll be happy to share my advice on how to get the most of your beach R&R!
In Cozumel, you can book the
Cozumel Beach Break if you want Disney Cruise Line to take care of all the details, but you are welcome to venture out on your own. If you do, Paradise Beach is a lovely beach setting. It is about five miles from the ship, and taxis will be waiting for you at the end of the pier. You can estimate between $14.00-$20.00 for a one-way fare for four to five passengers. Once you get there be sure to have some cash for entrance (about $2.00 per person), food and drink. Also, know the price of your transportation before you leave the pier and plan plenty of time for your return to the ship.
On Castaway Cay, the beach, lounge chairs, umbrellas, and your delicious BBQ lunch is all included in your cruise fare. There are plenty of chairs and umbrellas so no need to rush to get off the boat to claim your spot. Lunch is served between 11:30am-2:00pm at either Cookies BBQ or Cookies Too (there is also lunch available on the adult-only beach as well). If your children (ages 3-12) want to participate in the youth club on the island, Scuttle's Cove is open from 9:00am-4:00pm for free time and scheduled programming. If you do decide you want to float around, snorkel or navigate the island via bike, it is easy to rent equipment with your Key to the World during the day.
I'm about out of room, Tom so please let me know if you have any other questions!
