Welcome aboard, Barb!
When my family and I sail, we love to unplug from the world. We leave our cell phones in airplane mode the whole time, so we don't accidentally and unintentionally use roaming data. That being said, we do like to check in online a few quick times throughout the cruise to post or send a photo.
Disney Cruise Line's Navigator App can be downloaded before you arrive at the port so it's all ready on your phones or other mobile devices. Once onboard, follow the directions it provides to connect to the DCL-GUEST WiFi network. You may use the app free of charge on the WiFi. It's great because it allows you to check the schedule of activities, (and even save favorites), view menus, ship maps, and even text onboard with other guests to keep in touch. My daughter and I just got back from a Mother-Daughter cruise on the Wonder, and let me tell you, that app and its texting was priceless. She met new friends, and was off exploring with them, but the app allowed us to keep in touch onboard and for me to always know where she was. You'll love it!
Now, if you'd like to do anything else on WiFi onboard, you'll need to purchase a
Connect@Sea package once onboard. Again, I try to stay unplugged from the world when we sail, so I don't purchase one, but since I do like to check in quickly, I take advantage of the free 50 MB package offer that is only available on the first day onboard. I can use it throughout the cruise, but I must sign up for it on my phone that first day. Check your Personal Navigator that first day for details. That's always enough to post a few pictures and send a message or two. If you run over (there is a handy data meter so you can keep track), just purchase a package at that point!
Have a magical cruise, Barb!
