Hi Patricia!
I am always looking for ways to save money on our trips. We are
Disney Premier Visa cardholders, and I often purchase Disney Gift Cards to help pay for our trip too. I try to combine both of them for the maximum benefit!
We use the
Disney Visa Card as our daily credit card. We have the Premier Card, because although there is an annual fee, we earn extra reward dollars that make it worth it. You can even use reward dollars earned with the Premier Card to pay for airfare! I use the credit card for everyday purchases, then pay it off at the end of the month, all while earning reward dollars. I will often use these reward dollars to cover our airline or resort costs.
There are
other perks to the Disney Visa Card too. We use the 10% merchandise discount at our local Disney Store, as well as to buy souvenirs on our trip. There are also select dining discounts, tour, recreation and spa discounts, and an exclusive cardholder meet-and-greet in the parks!
When I have additional cash that I want to set aside for our next trip, I will purchase
Disney Gift Cards. Here’s my Mom Pro Tip, if you have a Target Redcard, you can purchase Disney Gift Cards at a 5% discount. Discount Disney Gift Cards are also sometimes available at Sam’s Club. I use the Disney Gift Card to pay for anything that I don’t get a discount on with the credit card. I am planning on using the Disney Gift Cards I picked up today (for 5% off at Target) to purchase my theme park tickets.
If you are not purchasing Disney Gift Cards with a discount, and you will pay your credit card balance off right away, you are better off using the Disney Visa Card to earn reward dollars toward your next trip, than using the Disney Gift Card which has no financial benefit.
I hope this helped to answer your question Patricia, please let us know how else we can help you as you plan your visit!
