First off, this forum has been an invaluable resource for planning our WDW vacation. We (wife, 3 boys 6,4,4, and myself) are staying at the POR. Can we check in early, so that we can go to one of the parks in the morning of our arrival?

Whether you can get into your room early depends on many factors (such as the hotel's occupancy rate). It is probably unlikely that you can actually check-in early. However, you can pre-register, and that's almost as good.  Simply go to the hotel check-in desk. They will set up your account, activate your Key to World card, and give you any welcome documents. They will also store your luggage for you in a secure area until your room is actually ready. Then, you can leave to explore the parks, swim, get a meal, or whatever you want until your room is ready. Most of the time the front desk will give you a phone number to call to verify that your room is ready so you don't come back too early. This happens to us on almost every trip to WDW and it always works perfectly.

Hope you have a great trip.
