Got my first ever WDW trip in April '23. Tipping - what % of the overall bill are we expected to tip and do we need dollar bills for this, or can we ask the cast member to add our chosen tip amount when we pay for the meal using contactless?

    Anna,

Thanks for asking your question to planDisney!

In the United States a 15% tip is considered quite standard for good service. To your other question, Disney payment systems do allow for the addition of a gratuity to a bill at time of payment.

Of course, the amount of the gratuity is completely left at your discretion. I rarely see tips that are over 20%, but with the fantastic Disney service my family typically receives, we often do go to that amount.

As to the payment systems, during our Walt Disney World vacations we never carry cash into the parks, or even when visiting other Disney resort hotels. There is something liberating about not having to carry that all around. I like to travel light, so only having to carry my phone with an attachment that holds my identification card is liberating. Even that ID is not necessarily required, though I like to have it if I am ordering an adult beverage. Nobody is going to mistake me for a teenager, but sometimes the systems at some venues will ask the cast members to confirm age.

    BOTTOM LINE
Tipping: 15% is your target, with variance at your discretion
Adding Tips to Bill Electronically: Yes, the systems allow that
Carrying Cash: Not needed on property

Please feel free to write me back directly if you have any follow-up questions.
