Welcome aboard, Lorrie! When my family and I first sailed on the Dream years ago, it was a July cruise too! That made for the most wonderful introduction to sailing with Disney, and since then we've been on all four ships at all different times of the year, but that first cruise on the Dream will always hold a very special place in our hearts since it was our first experience with Captain Mickey and his crew! You're in for such fun!
Don't worry about not getting a private cabana on Castaway Cay. We actually choose not to reserve one when we visit
Disney's private island because there is so much going on all around the island, we love to explore and participate in the activities! But, my fair-skinned family and I need lots of shade, so I understand your worries. However, you'll be very happy to know that the entire Family Beach is covered with umbrellas, lounge chairs and beach chairs. You will not have a problem finding the perfect spot to set up camp for the day. I do suggest that you leave the ship early in the morning and stay on the tram to the second Family Beach stop (Pelican Plunge, instead of hopping off at Scuttle's Cove). You'll be a bit further down the beach with more options to choose from especially first thing in the morning.
Take a look at the picture I've included here and you'll see the beach full of colorful umbrellas. Castaway Cay is such a special place! Besides relaxing on the beach and playing in the sea, be sure to check your Personal Navigator or the
Disney Cruise Line Navigator App for all of the extra activities that take place throughout the day. My family and I love the Character Dance Parties, Crab Races, and Family Whale Dig. Plus, the water fun at Pelican Plunge with the two slides is always a great way to spend part of the day.
Have such fun on your trip, Lorrie!
