This is our first cruise and I’m wondering how much you actually feel the boat moving/rocking on the ocean. Do you usually take Dramamine or some other medicine just in case?

    Ahoy, Karen!

Thank you for another excellent question about your first sailing aboard Disney Cruise Line. I've been on about 25 cruises and have been lucky enough to not experience any seasickness at all (knock on wood!!!). I do normally feel the motion of the ship, but it doesn't ever seem to bother me. My husband is a different story... He realized very quickly on our first cruise that he would need some type of medication to help him deal with the movement of the vessel. Dramamine worked for him on that first sailing, but decided the Transderm-Scop patch, prescribed by his primary doctor, was the best fit for him on our second cruise and beyond. We typically sail for 7-nights, so he does have to switch the patch mid-cruise since they only last three to four days each. Since this does require a prescription, I always recommend discussing it with your doctor before you decide if it's a good option. I know other friends who have had success using Bonine, which is over the counter and Sea-Bands that offer a natural relief to nausea.

Karen, I suggest having some type of medication available just in case. In the past, I've seen some for sale on the ship in the sundries section of White Caps. I would also not hesitate to stop by Guest Services or the Health Center if what you have doesn't work.

My wish is for smooth sailing for your crew, Karen! Please let us know if you have any other questions.

    Have a magical day!
