This will be our first cruise, do the children need passports to travel or can we use birth certificates?

    Ahoy, Monique!
Planning your first cruise is such an exciting time, so I hope you are finding the Disney Parks Moms Panel helpful in the process. This is another excellent question that's important to know before you embark on your first magical voyage with Captain Mickey! Disney Cruise Line does recommend all Guests travel with a valid U.S. Passport if your cruise is leaving from a U.S. port and returning to that same port. This is known as a closed loop cruise. Birth certificates are acceptable to board the ship, but if an emergency arises while in one of the foreign ports of call (Bahamas or the Caribbean islands), you will need a valid passport to travel back home. Hopefully, this will not be the case, but passports will help you get back home without any issues. My advice is to read the Passport Information for your particular itinerary on the Disney Cruise Line website, so you can be informed of what is required. The information on this page will help you make the best decision for your family.
I'm so glad I was able to assist you again, Monique! Keep us posted if you think of any additional questions.
    Have a magical day!
