How do the fireworks in Disneyland compare to MK in WDW in terms of volume? I have some sensory issues around fireworks but managed MK with hearing protection in 2022, I watched Epcot's from Tokyo Dining. I want to prepare for a 2026 West Coast trip!

    Hi Victoria,

Thanks for visiting planDisney! We're so happy you're coming to visit us here on the West Coast! Disneyland is where the park magic began, so it’s a must-do for any Disney fan. Great question about the fireworks! To celebrate the 70th anniversary of Disneyland, Wondrous Journeys will be returning to the park until Summer 2026. I hope you'll be able to catch this fan favorite!

I grew up going to Disneyland, so when I took my first trip to Magic Kingdom, I was blown away by the large scale of everything. I must admit, that even translated to the fireworks. In my opinion, the fireworks at Magic Kingdom are bigger. However, the fireworks at Disneyland are still quite loud, so I would recommend packing some noise-dampening headphones or earbuds to help you enjoy the fireworks. I recommend watching the show from the top of Main Street, U.S.A. (near the flagpole and the Emporium) to put some distance between you and the fireworks. Disneyland has extended the projections to the shops that line Main Street, and you can still enjoy that component of the show. Guests (including myself) have also been known to watch the fireworks from the Esplanade between the two parks. Keep in mind that from there, you won’t be able to see the projections or hear the music. If there are any other attractions that you might have concerns about, the Disneyland Resort has a sensory guide for guests, so you can plan accordingly for your trip. You can explore a full list of attractions at both parks to know ahead of time what to expect.

A great alternative to the fireworks show is World of Color. There are no fireworks during the show, but it includes dancing water and fire elements. To celebrate the 70th anniversary of Disneyland, California Adventure will debut a new World of Color show, “World of Color Happiness!” It will feature music from Turning Red, A Goofy Movie, Tangled, and Encanto. I’m really hoping to hear “I2I” and some 4Town hits!

I hope this advice was helpful, Victoria. If you have any other questions, need additional help, or would love more advice, please feel free to write back to me or my fellow panelists, and we’d be happy to assist.

    Happy planning!
