How do I find out if there will be a lot of conventions near/at WDW in October? We are trying to chose the best dates to go and would like to avoid major crowds, if possible.

There is no special place to call to find out if there are conventions being held at WDW. The fact of the matter is that there are conventions, sporting meets, and many other special events that bring large groups of people to WDW all the time. These groups will be factored into the expected crowd levels at the parks at different times of the year.

Disney World is a gigantic place, a similar size to the city of San Francisco. October is one of the least busy months at WDW, most children are in school then, and people tend not to pull their children out of school at the beginning of the year. So imagine, even if you dumped several large conventions into San Francisco, the impact on the city as a whole would be minimal. So the low crowd level would be maintained. Also, I tend to think that conventions don't have that much impact on the parks as a whole for other reasons as well. All those conventioneers are busy in meetings and at company functions, so they won't be taking us that much space in the parks anyway.

    Hope this helps.
