How do I find out if my child qualifies to have a wagon as a medical need or qualifies for DAS?

    Hi LeAnna,

I see that your trip is coming up really soon! You are going to have such a magical time because Disney World has done an excellent job of revamping its Services for Guests With Disabilities. The new updates offer different accommodations depending on each guest's specific needs. I highly recommend reviewing the Accessibility Planning Guide and Recommendations before your visit for comprehensive information on the available services.

Disability Access Service (DAS) is specifically geared towards guests who, due to a developmental disability like autism or similar disorder, are unable to wait in a conventional queue for an extended period of time. Qualification for this service is determined through a video chat with a cast member. The chat is a simple process where you will explain why the member of your party can not wait in line, and they will determine if that is a covered reason.

You can do this chat up to 30 days before your vacation begins, but make sure that the qualifying guest is with you when you go through the chat process. They will snap a picture of the qualified guest during the chat and set everything up for your party. This service can only be used for a qualified guest and up to 3 family members. I went through the chat process recently and it took about 30 minutes total! I recommend going ahead and doing it now since your date is coming up soon, this way you will have time to go over the other options available and make a plan if your child does not qualify.

If your child uses a stroller instead of a wheelchair, you will need to stop by Guest Services on the first day of your trip and request a "Stroller as a Wheelchair" tag. This allows you to keep the stroller with you in attraction queues instead of parking it outside. You will need to explain to the cast member at Guest Services that your child has a disability and uses the stroller as a wheelchair or it is needed to transport medical equipment.  If you bring your stroller, it must be no larger than 31"x 52". Wagons are no longer permitted at Disney World. If you have any concerns about whether or not you qualify, you can contact Disability.Services@disneyparks.com before your visit to confirm that you will be able to qualify.

    Happy Planning,
    Jenna
