How far in advance does Disney announce plans for any free or cheaper versions of their dining plans? We are looking at Christmas 2009 or possibly even 2010...I know it's far too far in advance for 2010...thanks!!! The free plan in 2009 was great!!!

    Hi Derek,

Disney does not have a schedule of when free dining or other promotions are issued. In the past, these promotions are offered during non-peak touring times at the Walt Disney World Resorts. In the past, free dining has been offered in August.

It has been my experience that free dining or promotions during the Christmas holidays do not exist. If they do, it is in the period between Thanksgiving and Christmas.  Also, it may be offered to a smaller group of tourists for example members of a particular credit card.

In order to keep up on all of the promotions, I recommend subscribing to Mousesavers.com and Allearsnet.com. Both of these websites send alerts about specials at the Walt Disney World Resorts.

Finally, if you are determined to visit during a select week, book the vacation you can afford as soon as it comes out. Then if a promotion becomes available, call Disney and ask if they will honor the promotion price. They generally will rebook your trip at the new price if they have availability, and I have done this in the past. This way you get the dates you want and have saved money as well.

    Happy planning!
