Is the Fantasmic dinner package only available for guests of the WDW resorts? Or can guests staying off-site make reservations for that also?

Anyone can make advance dining reservations for the Fantasmic dinner packages, you don't have to be staying at a Disney resort to do this. To make your reservations, just call Disney Dining at 407-WDW-DINE.

For anyone who doesn't know, the Fantasmic dinner package is one of the very few experiences at WDW that allow you to legally "cut the line." There are three restaurants at Disney's Hollywood Studios that participate in this program: the Brown Derby, Hollywood & Vine, and Mama Melrose's. Each night, a limited number of dinner packages are sold at these restaurants that allow guests to sit in a reserved area for the Fantasmic show. With the package, you only need to arrive at the Fantasmic stadium about 30 minutes in advance. At busy times of the year, people start lining up for the show about 90 minutes in advance, so effectively you've saved yourself an hour.

There is no additional charge for the package, you just pay the regular cost for the meal. The only catch is that you have to leave a credit card on file to hold the meal reservation. If you do not show up for the meal, you will be assessed a penalty fee.

My family used the Fantasmic dinner package at Hollywood and Vine about two months ago. It happened to work out great, but we were a bit worried because there was intermittent rain the night of our reservation. There was some concern that the show would be canceled due to weather. Our show did end up going on, but if it had been canceled, then the entire purpose of reserving the package would have disappeared. I only point this out because something like a weather cancelation might be the only downside to the package that you should be aware of, since you are obliged to keep your reservation even if it is pouring rain that night.
