AA: WDW Bus transportation; multigenerational

I am a fan of the $15 bus in the 2010s that one could take from within the parks, that hops one into another park via the backstage roads, all within security etc. Will the new Lightning Lane Premiere Pass bring this back to maximize time while hopping?

Hey there Alex, it's great to see you here at planDisney!

I always love seeing a little throwback to attractions or offerings that have since become defunct, and your question definitely brought me back to almost a decade ago; it was a time when the fleet that made up Walt Disney World Resort bus transportation all looked the same and certainly not as distinctly wrapped with Disney character designs as they are now. Back then, a very convenient Express Transportation offering saved guests from having to pass through security each time they wanted to hop between the theme parks and thereby avoid the bag checks that seemed to take much longer in retrospect. (Do you remember that time before the large security scanners at the entrances became implemented?)

At the current time, there's no telling whether this offering will be making a comeback anytime soon and the Cast Members I reached out to either did not remember this offering existed or could not provide any additional insight. With the very recent news of Lightning Lane Premiere Pass debuting at Walt Disney World Resort with a piloted rollout starting on October 30, 2024 - this currently does not come with the ability to be utilized between theme parks as it is only valid "in one park for one day". At the time of writing there aren't any further details about whether this may change in the future but I'll personally be very interested in observing how the rollout works out with the kinds of guests that this offering is probably best suited for - who are willing to pay for this.

Though we at planDisney sometimes have the opportunity to gain a glimpse into what's yet to come at Disney Destinations, there is currently nothing to share about any paid Express Transportation options that provide backstage access between the theme parks - with of course the exception of Disney Private VIP Tours. (Similarly, the perk of being able to enter another theme park via backstage is also something that guests booking chartered transportation as part of their events planned with Disney's Fairy Tale Weddings.)

Who knows whether we'll ever see Express Transportation coming back to Walt Disney World Resort one day; it's always best to keep an eye on the Disney Parks Blog for any other official announcements as they come and in the meantime, why not take a look at our planDisney Transportation Tips that come with their own episode of the planDisney Podcast

Here's to more ways to save time at the theme parks, and the journeys we take between them!
