Hello, my family’s magic key expires on Feb 2025 but my daughter will turn 3 Sept. 10. We want to get her a magic key but I want all our keys to begin and end around the same time. Would it be better to wait till Feb to get a MK or buy one during her bday

Hi there, Cyrille, and welcome to planDisney!

It's a pleasure to see you here and thanks for submitting your question to us! It's always nice to greet a fellow Magic Key Holder. I hope you've enjoyed being able to return to the magic of the Disneyland Resort again and again with that Key!

You ask an interesting question, Cyrille. As you've probably seen, Magic Keys are in high demand and sales windows can be unpredictable at best. Just this year, we've seen all Magic Key sales halted indefinitely with no indication when they would return, which is the current situation as of the time of this writing. However, Disney has in the past allowed families with children who are turning 3 to purchase a new Magic Key Pass for a limited time after their birthday. You can ask about this policy when calling the Magic Key phone line but I suspect that you'll need to bring your child and proof of age to a Main Entrance Ticket Booth.

If you definitely want your daughter to have a Magic Key, my recommendation would be to purchase one for her as soon as she turns 3. If you wait until February, you run the risk of Magic Keys possibly not being on sale at all. I'm unsure if these special exception Magic Keys are active or not at the time of purchase, but if they're not, you could always wait until February to activate it so that it has a similar expiration date as yours.

I'm so glad that you want to include your daughter in your family's Magic Key! I can't help but think about Walt Disney taking his daughters to Griffith Park and envisioning his idea for Disneyland as a place where parents could have fun with their kids. I certainly hope that your daughter appreciates having her very own Magic Key to unlock all that magic! She's about to form some poignant core memories!

Cyrille, I hope that this helped you to make a decision and I wish you the best as you choose when to get your daughter her Magic Key! Please write back to us anytime you have more questions and we'll see ya real soon!

Wishing You a Great, Big, Beautiful Tomorrow!

Meet the Panelist: Al, California

Ahoy there from the heart of Steinbeck Country in central California! I've been visiting the Disneyland Resort since childhood and fell in love with the sense of absolute immersion that the Imagineers have achieved. My favorite attraction is Pirates of the Caribbean because where else can you go from a California day to an evening boat ride in the bayou with "salty old pirates"? I'm a veterinarian and an all-around Disney geek and enthusiast. I'd love to help you plan your next Disneyland trip! Learn More About Al
