My family of 6 will be going to WDW in June 2012. We are not staying at WDW but within minutes of the parks. We are on a strict budget for our trip so I'm trying to find the cheapest way to eat at the parks without having a dining plan. Any ideas on lunch?

Hi, Rebekah!  There are tons of things you can do to save money on meals at Walt Disney World, and I'm pretty sure my family has done them all!

One thing I recommend if you want a sit down type of meal is an off time visit to the buffets.  I'll give the kids a granola bar for a quick breakfast, then plan lunch for 11:30 AM.  They'll eat a good hearty meal at lunch time, then be full until late in the day, when a light dinner is more than enough.

I'm a big fan of meal sharing.  Sit down meals are generously portioned.  My husband and I often split an entree, and two of my daughters can easily split a meal.  I might add a soup or salad, but one meal usually comfortably feeds two of us.

When it comes to counter service meals, I always order a kids meal - even for my husband.  Many of the counter service restaurants have a nice fixings bar for the burgers, and you can very easily order a children's hamburger and dress it up so it's an adult meal.  They come with fries or fruit, and can be quite filling. Cosmic Ray's has a 1/2 rotisserie chicken meal with mashed potatoes and vegetables - that can easily feed three of my family for less than $10.

If your family is a fan of water over sodas, you can get free water by asking for a cup of water instead of bottled water.  You can get this at any counter service location.

At EPCOT, think outside the burger box.  Check out the counter service or kiosk locations in the World Showcase.  You can quite often get a nice sized meal for value meal priced!

Have a great visit to Walt Disney World!
