Hi! My family & I will be visiting WDW in September. We recently saw the grapefruit cake at the Brown Derby on the Travel Channel & want to try it. Since we already have all of our meals planned, is there a chance we can get slices to go?

I am a big citrus fan. The Brown Derby grapefruit cake is one of my favorite desserts in all of WDW -- very light, with just the right combination of tart and sweet, plus that yuuuummmy cream cheese frosting.

You don't have to have an entire meal to dine at the Brown Derby. If the crowds are light (likely near park closing time) you can just go up and ask to be seated for dessert. This way you can enjoy the cake in relaxing atmosphere with a cup of coffee or, my preference, champagne :-). However, if that doesn't work out, you can ask at the podium if it would be possible for them to box up a slice or two of cake for you to take to go. Again, if it's not too busy, they will likely be able to accommodate you.

If you just can't wait to try the grapefruit cake, the recipe is readily available, both in Disney cookbooks and online. If you Google "Brown Derby Grapefruit Cake Recipe," you'll come up with several hits. This recipe is so popular, that they even have little brown-derby-shaped recipe cards that they pass out at the restaurant. So thoughtful!
