My family of 4 will be visiting the parks for 5 days in December. Of the 5 days we would only hop parks for 2 of the days. It's much cheaper to buy 7 day base tickets than 5 day hopper tickets. Is there any disadvantages to doing it this way?

The disadvantage is that it won't work. The entrance turnstile computer system will not allow a basic ticket to be used at more than one park per day. For example, if you spent the morning at the Magic Kingdom and then wanted to visit Epcot in the afternoon. If you tried to enter Epcot with your basic ticket, you would not be reduce one day's worth of admission. Instead the ticket would simply not work at all and you would not be allowed into Epcot. If you want to park hop, you're going to have to get a park hopper ticket.

Think of it this way ... By purchasing a park hopper ticket, in addition to buying two days of park hopping (in your case), you are also buying a little insurance policy. If plans should happen to go astray because of an illness in your party or because of a weather issue, you'll be more readily able to work in the attractions that you missed if you have the ability to park hop.

    Hope this makes sense.
