Hi Aimee!
Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge is a destination into itself! Even if you are not an overnight Guest of the resort, there is so much to see at this spectacular location, it is worth a visit. There are over 200 animals that call Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge their home, and depending on the time of day you can see zebra, giraffe, wildebeest, bongo, African crown cranes, and more!
There is not a specific daily schedule that the animals are gone from the savanna. Different animals may be brought backstage for care and a break from the public eye, but not all at the same time and not at the same time each day. There are animals out on the savannas all night for example. As a
Disney Vacation Club Member, my family calls Disney’s Animal Kingdom Villas our Home Resort, and we have stayed here many times. There has never been a time where I didn’t at least see some animals on the savanna. If you are hoping to have a greater chance of seeing some of the larger animals, many are fed in the late afternoon, after 4 PM and so you can often watch the giraffe munching on their dinners.
Boma- Flavors of Africa has an amazing buffet for both breakfast and dinner. I am partial to dinner because I enjoy the wide variety of flavors and they offer one of my favorite Disney treats, the zebra dome. This is a little piece of sponge cake with a lovely chocolate mousse type topping that is then covered in white chocolate with dark chocolate zebra stripes. It’s amazing! If you were looking to see a lot of animals, you could arrive early to watch the animals on the overlook both before and after your reservation, regardless if it were breakfast or dinner.
It looks like your trip isn’t planned until next year. Do keep in mind that at this time Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge has not fully reopened, and Boma - Flavors of Africa also remains closed. Keep an eye open for announcements as to when these locations will become available for Guests to book.
Have a magical day!
- Kate
