Welcome to planDisney, Frances! I am so glad that you found us to ask your questions.
Let me start by saying that
Disney's Wilderness Lodge is absolutely one of my favorite places to stay! From the grand lobby to the “nestled in the woods” feel, I love everything about this resort! And, you will get to be there with Christmas decorations, which is definitely the BEST time of year!
I know that looking at maps of the Walt Disney World property makes it difficult to judge distances, but I can assure you that it is not safe to walk from Wilderness Lodge to the Transportation & Ticket Center. (It is also a LOT farther than you think). But, never fear, I have some good news!
There is a boat that can take your family from Wilderness Lodge to Magic Kingdom. It runs pretty regularly in 15(ish) minute intervals throughout the day. To get to the boat launch, you will exit out Wilderness Lodge in the back, near Artist Point restaurant and follow the path back to Bay Lake.
In December, be sure to bring jackets, as it can be cooler in Florida that you might expect. Plus, that boat ride is quite windy. If you prefer, there is also a bus that can take you to Magic Kingdom. If you are set on taking a monorail ride, you can take the resort loop from Magic Kingdom that stops at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, Polynesian Village, and Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. Should you make this choice, be sure to get off at each hotel to take in the holiday decorations – the Gingerbread house at the Grand Floridian is spectacular!
I hope you have a wonderful visit to Walt Disney World during The Most Magical Celebration on Earth!
Happy Traveling,
Tracy
