We are a family of 6 taking our first vacation with four children, ages 7,6,3,2 In May. We are not sure what resorts will be easy for us when going from resort to park, specifically Magic kingdom, any thoughts on port Orleans Riverside hotel?

    Hi Andrea,

Hooray for a first vacation to the Walt Disney World Resort! It is one of the first family vacations I took with my daughters when they were just two and four.

When you think about a location, you will need to think about the transportation. You have young children who will need a stroller to tour the parks. This means taking it on Disney's transportation. You will want to make sure the stroller is light and you have backpack to keep your hands free to hold onto the stroller and your children.

With a family of six, you might want to look at a one bedroom villa. While these do cost more, they do allow you to use either a boat or the monorail to get to Epcot or Magic Kingdom without taking your children out of the stroller. You can offset the cost of this villa by ordering food from an online grocer. Order food for breakfast, lunch, snacks and drinks and bring this into the park. Also, if you stay one less day, you save not only on a park ticket but hotel nights.

One of the biggest stressor for a trip is to try and manage the transportation. It can be extremely tiring, and after a long day in the park, you just want to get home. I recommend Bay Lake Towers or even Wilderness Lodge if you are going to concentrate mainly on the Magic Kingdom. From here, you can take the monorail or boat to/from Magic Kingdom and Epcot.

I love Port Orleans Riverside and it is my favorite moderate resort. You may be over the limit for occupancy and you will be on the bus about 20 minutes to all parks. You may want to try the sister resort, French Quarter, as it is smaller and has a pool little ones love. Plus if the park is crowded , it might have its own bus instead of sharing with Riverside.

    Wishing you a magical vacation!
