My family is taking our first cruise in February! It is a 3 day cruise to Castaway Cay. My husband and I are wondering if it is worth applying for a passport or will our birth certificates and ID be ok?

Welcome aboard, Tiffany! Your very first sailing with Disney Cruise Line will be one to remember! Disney's cruises are always magical, but your first voyage at sea with Captain Mickey holds so many exciting surprises for your family! I'm really excited for you to experience it!

My family and I always sail with passports, as we like the added security of knowing that should find ourselves in the unlikely event of an emergency or medical issue in a foreign port of call, we can more easily travel home. However, Disney Cruise Line does not require U.S. citizens to have a passport for their Bahamian sailings that depart and return to Port Canaveral.

If you do not have a passport, guests over the age of 16 need to bring a government issued photo I.D. (like your driver's license), along with a copy or the original or your state-issued birth certificate. Children under 16 may present the original or copy of their state-issued birth certificate. Please read more about the required documents for U.S. Citizens on the Passports and Travel Documentation page of Disney Cruise Line's website for the most up-to-date information and details.

I hope that helps as you get ready to set sail in the winter to enjoy Nassau and Castaway Cay! Have fun planning your cruise on the Disney Dream, Tiffany!
