Hi Stephen!
Thanks for bringing this question to planDisney!
From my experience, I’ve never had an issue returning to an attraction past my return time when using
Rider Switch. Sometimes our schedule hasn’t allowed us to be there in time for both groups to make it through the Lightning Lane within the initial return time. We just chatted with the Cast Members about it, and they made sure we were all set!
You’re right that you’ll want to purchase a
Lightning Lane for every member riding
TRON if everyone wants to access the ride through the Lightning Lane. The cool part, though, is that if there’s only 1 person in the second group, someone from the first group can join them and ride again!
We just did this with
Guardians at Epcot a couple of weeks ago. I purchased Lightning Lane Single Passes for my husband, my middle son, and me. Prior to riding, we set up Rider Switch with the Cast Members at the designated area near the queue. Then, my husband and son used their Single Pass to ride while I hung out with my other two boys. Once they were done riding, my middle son got to ride a second time with me. He was so excited to ride back-to-back!
Remember, your Lightning Lane booking window will open beginning at 7 AM Eastern, 7 days prior to your resort check-in date if you’re staying at a
Disney World resort or select good neighbor hotel. If you’re staying off property, your booking window will open at 7 AM Eastern, 3 days prior to the start date of your ticket for date-based tickets.
I hope that helps! If you have any other questions, feel free to come back and visit us!
