My family will be staying at the AKL at the end of August. I have no problem planning which park to go to on what days, but I can't commit to meal reservations anywhere. No dining plan. Will we be able to eat at BOMA a few nights without reservations? Thx.

Hi Suzanne! I think a lot of people feel the same way as you -- they want eat where they want when they're hungry, instead of planning their meals in advance. I understand the desire to just wing it and have a relaxing, relatively unscheduled vacation. However, when I've tried to do that, I've often found myself hungry and unable to get a table at my restaurants of choice, and for that reason, I generally find I have a more relaxing vacation when I plan in advance.

Boma is a fairly busy restaurant in the evenings. Even when I have a reservation there, I often have to wait quite a bit for a table. If your family likes to dine early or late, you would have a better chance of dining there without a reservation than if you arrive during the peak dinner hours. Even though late August is generally a time when attendance levels at Disney World begin to decrease, the free dining promotion then often means crowded restaurants, and you may have some difficulty getting into table-service restaurants without a reservation. In my opinion, you'd have a better chance walking in to Jiko than Boma, as Jiko generally seems much less crowded, probably due to the fact that meals there cost more than Boma. If you know you definitely want to eat at Boma, you might want to make a reservation there for a night you think you'll be back at the resort. If your plans change, you can always cancel it.  Likewise, since you already know which parks you're planning to visit each day, it wouldn't hurt to make a reservation at a restaurant in each park for those days, just to have the option of a table-service meal if you need it.  I hope you understand that I'm not trying to stifle your spontaneity; I'm just trying to help you avoid making the same mistakes I did!

Hope you have a great time in August!
