Hi! My family and I have stayed at the WDW resort many times. This year we are celebrating my daughters 13th Birthday with several of her friends at the Tree House Villas. I want to make it special and fun without a lot of expense. Any ideas??

    Hi Meredith!

I love this question, because there are so many special things to do at Walt Disney World! I have a few ideas for you, at various level of budget friendliness.

If I remember my own tween years correctly, girls are big fans of the sleepover. Take advantage of what Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa can offer! Visit one of the feature pools at the resort to burn off some energy, then a trip to Community Hall to play board games, or treat them to a small craft project. Rent a Disney DVD from Community Hall to watch in your Treehouse Villa later that night. If you have groceries delivered from a place like Garden Grocer, or you have your own car, plan dinner in your villa and add an inexpensive store birthday cake to the party.

There is water taxi service available right near the Treehouse Villas to take you to a wide variety of shopping and dining at Downtown Disney. At Goofy’s Candy Company, have the girls create their own treat. This is one of my favorite places to get an affordable and fun snack. My favorite is a Mickey Krispie Treat, dipped in milk chocolate and mini M&M’s. The girls might also enjoy an afternoon or evening bowling or dining at Splitsville Luxury Lanes. Reservations are highly recommended, so if you go this route I would schedule a time as soon as you are able.

If you'd like something a little fancier, and there is a bit more room in your budget, consider Afternoon Tea at the Garden View Tea Room at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa.  Afternoon Tea is available between 2:00 PM and 5:00 PM daily and includes tea, assorted sandwiches and pastries. Although always subject to change, at my last check, packages available ranged from $25-$45 per person, not including tax and tip.

I hope I have inspired you with at least one fun idea for your daughter’s special day and I hope she has a wonderful first “teen” birthday!
