    Hi - me and my family will be returning to Disney in August and it looks like our magic bands from the May 2014 trip are still active and recent reservations attached to existing bands. Will we be issued with new bands in August 2016?

    It's great to have you with us here at the Disney Parks Moms Panel!

    I have excellent news to share! You are actually in control of the decision to have new MagicBands for your upcoming Walt Disney World Resort Vacations.

    All Guests are entitled to a new MagicBand for each and every Walt Disney World Resort Hotel Reservation. Once your reservation number is linked to your My Disney Experience Account, you should see your opportunity to customize your newest MagicBands in the corresponding section. You have the option to customize the color and message printed on the inside, or to decline the MagicBand if you have decided that your collection is growing a little too large.

    Since it sounds like your existing MagicBands will be a little over two years old by your August vacation, I would certainly chose to customize and accept a new set. This is because the internal battery inside your MagicBand is reported to last approximately two - three years. This battery powers the technology that allows your MagicBand to link to things like your attraction photos without needing to "Tap the Mickey on the Mickey" at the picture preview area after the attraction. I wouldn't want you to miss out on that!
