My family and I are looking forward to our first Disney Cruise! I am interested in the Castaway Cay 5K but no one else in my family will be running. Is it possible for my family to get off the ship with me when it's time for the run so they can watch?

    Ahoy, Amy!

Participating in the Castaway Cay 5K is my favorite way to start my day on Disney's Private Island, Castaway Cay! One of the best parts is that the participants usually get to disembark the ship before everyone else on CC!

Unfortunately, your family will not be able to leave the ship with you. The CC5K is not a typical 5K. There are no viewing areas for your family to watch you. But, if they plan to be in the early crowd getting off the ship right after the runners, they can take the tram down to the Pelican Plunge tram stop, which is where the finish line is located. Then, they can cheer for you as you finish and you can join them once you are finished with your run.

Your family will have a little time to go and seek out some great beach chairs while they wait for you. If you send your swimsuit with them, you can duck into the bathroom to change after the run.

The medal for the Castaway Cay 5K recently changed to an official runDisney medal, and it is awesome! Kids ages 10 and up can participate in the race, and my entire family will be running it in July. We can't wait!

I hope this helps with your cruise planning. Please visit the Disney Parks Moms Panel with more questions as your cruise gets closer!

Happy Cruising (and running), Tracy V.
