Ahoy, Natalie!
How exciting that you will be sailing on one of the Very Merrytime cruises! The holiday decorations onboard the Disney Cruise Line fleet are simply stunning. Be sure to stop by the huge Christmas tree in the atrium for a family photo, maybe it will be your Christmas card photo for next year!
One of my favorite things about visiting
Castaway Cay is getting up a little early to go and run the Castaway Cay 5K! I was so excited that both of my daughters were old enough to participate with me last July, when we sailed on the Disney Dream! (The minimum age is 10 years old.)
Due to the narrow paths on Castaway Cay, jogging strollers, walkers, and wheelchairs are not allowed in the Castaway Cay 5K. If your kids are above the age of three and potty-trained, you can drop them off at Scuttle's Cove on your way to the race in the morning. Otherwise, if you need to sign them up for the
"it's a small world" nursery!, it is a good idea to book it as soon as possible.
The race takes about an hour and a half, from the time you meet on the ship, walk to the start line, stow bags, and then actually participate in the 5K. Obviously if you are a quick runner, the time is less. My husband and I typically walk the majority of the 5K, enjoying the scenery around Castaway Cay. It is also pretty hot and humid on the island!
I hope this helps with your planning for your very first Disney Cruise Line vacation! Please visit us here at the Disney Parks Moms Panel if you have further questions before you set sail.
Happy Cruising, Tracy V.
