Hi there, Jackie!
Welcome to planDisney! Thank you so much for stopping by to ask your question. It's my pleasure to share some tips that will point your compass toward fun and family memories aboard Disney Cruise Line. First of all, your 10-year-old is going to have an AMAZING vacation. Wow, this is going to be the best surprise ever!
To be transparent with you, I have sailed on each class of the
Disney Cruise Line ships and in various stateroom categories, and I have been happy with each experience. I don't have strong opinions about where to stay on the ship, but I will gladly share the advantages of some of the locations.
Let's start with
stateroom categories. You may choose from four general stateroom categories onboard the ship. The least expensive stateroom option is an Inside Stateroom. Inside Staterooms do not have a porthole, and that can be advantageous for guests who like to sleep in or take naps in the day without light peeking through the curtains. I'm generally happy to book an Inside Stateroom to save some money. If I'm craving a view of the ocean, I'll head to the Promenade Deck or to the top deck to take in sweeping ocean views.
The next category is an Oceanview Stateroom. My family has sailed in this category the most. Oceanview Staterooms offer views of the ocean through a porthole (one or two of them, depending on the room). It's a great compromise for those who want some natural light and beautiful views without needing a verandah.
An Oceanview with Verandah Stateroom offers private verandahs where you can sit and relax amid the ocean breeze. If you'll be sailing somewhere especially scenic, this may be the best option for you! It's also wonderful for those who want to sit in privacy with beautiful views.
If a Concierge Stateroom is in your budget, take a peek at the luxurious accommodations and
special perks that you enjoy as a Concierge guest. I haven't yet sailed as a Concierge guest, but it's on my bucket list!
As far as the location on the ship, I'd say midship staterooms are typically most sought after. If you are concerned about feeling motion, midship and lower staterooms are generally recommended. When my children were younger, they liked to be on the same floor as the Oceaneer's Club. The Oceaneer's Club and Lab are for guests ages 3-10. If you'd like to do minimal walking, select a stateroom near an elevator. If you like to get your steps in, stay on a lower deck and plan to take the stairs!
Jackie, I hope this information helps. Please cruise back to planDisney any time you have more questions. My pals and I will be here to assist you.
Happy Planning!
