Hello, Suzanne, and welcome to planDisney!
Thanks so much for stopping by with your question. I'm excited for you and your child to be able to visit the Disneyland Resort in early January.
Crowd levels have traditionally been lighter around those times and it's a great chance for your little one to meet characters and get their autographs! I still remember waiting in line for hours so my little daughter could meet Anna and Elsa years ago when Frozen was at its most popular. The look of happiness on her face when she finally did was priceless and made it all worthwhile.
I'm afraid that Disney has not yet announced a re-opening date for
Pixie Hollow and the
calendar states that this area remains Closed for Refurbishment as far out as it extends from the date of this answer (six weeks). I'm sorry for the disappointing news. I would recommend checking the
Disneyland Mobile App on the morning of your visit. On the Map screen, you are able to select "Characters" and if you click on "Show List" at the top right, you'll see a list of all characters scheduled to appear that day. That way, you can plan out your day according to whom your child would like to meet!
Another fun (and complimentary) thing to do with your child is to drop by the
Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique in Fantasyland and ask to have them "pixie dusted." That'll definitely add a bit of magic to their day. If want some great quality time with the classic characters, I'd also consider a character breakfast at
Plaza Inn. There's nothing like enjoying a nice hot breakfast buffet in the Park alongside all the characters!
Suzanne, I wish you the best as you plan this super fun trip to The Happiest Place on Earth! Please return anytime you have more questions. We're always happy to help and we'd love to hear from you again!
Wishing You a Great, Big, Beautiful Tomorrow!
