Congratulations on your surgery, and welcome to Loserville! I am three years post-op RNY, and I will tell you that I visited Walt Disney World 10 days post-op and cried over all the foods I wasn't able to enjoy! Three years later, I have eaten my way back around the World, and have discovered things I love that I might not have tried before!
When making your advanced dining reservations, have them note your special dietary needs. In most cases, a chef will come and talk to you about the menu and what they can do to accommodate your needs. I can't make specific recommendations, because we all have different issues following the surgery. I can't eat chicken very often, as it gets stuck nearly every time. The same happens with salmon and shrimp. I will tell you that I have the best luck at buffets, and with a card from your surgeon, many of them will charge you the children's price. I love Boma, because they always have delicious soups, and I can always eat soup. 'Ohana is also a good source for protein, just ask for portions that are not so well done.
Ask your family where they would like to eat, then browse the menus at
www.allears.net . You can find things on nearly every menu that you can eat - especially if you look at the appetizer selections instead of the entrees. That's my best trick!
If you want to send a message with what your food tolerances are, I can match you with some pretty good meals! Good luck!
