My family & I are going to Disney world next year in the last week of May. We have three kids a 13, 12, 8, my question is what should we pack for the parks?

  • Hi Shelly!

May is a great time to visit the Walt Disney World Resort. With most schools still in session, crowds tend to be lower than mid-summer, but you will still want to be prepared for sun and heat. Be sure to pack plenty of sunscreen, and perhaps a hat for each family member. Cool and comfortable clothes are also a must. My kids are big fans of athletic type tees, and these can be great since they are moisture wicking fabric. As a bonus, they also dry quickly after a run down Splash Mountain! I recommend packing two different sets of shoes to wear around the parks. There can be a lot of walking at Walt Disney World, so alternating different shoes each day can decrease tired feet and blisters. Since we’re talking about blisters, you may want to pack blister band-aids in case someone develops a hot spot.

For keeping cool, my sons love those water misting bottles. While they are available in the parks, you can also buy them before you leave home at many drug or department stores. Be sure to pack extra batteries for these too. Another “cool” idea are cooling towels that you get wet then snap them open to activate their cooling. These really are refreshing! Pack them in a small ziptop plastic bag and take out when you start to wilt. Besides the sun, Orlando is well known for afternoon showers, so I bring inexpensive rain ponchos from my dollar store at home.

I hope that helps you start your packing list Shelly. I can’t wait to see what my fellow panelists recommend as well!
