Hi Sheri,
Welcome to planDisney! It's always great to hear from a fellow Canadian, so thanks for stopping by with your planning question. Travel logistics are always high on my checklist with a family of 6, and I'm guessing it's similar for you! Let's take a look at some travel options from the Orlando International Airport to the
Walt Disney World Resort.
Over the years, my family has used a few different modes of transportation to get us safely and efficiently to our Disney Resort Hotel. One popular choice is a third- party shuttle: Mears Connect, which offers shared shuttle service between Orlando International Airport and
Disney Resort Hotels. It’s a budget-friendly option, though you may experience some waiting and a few stops along the way, depending on other arrivals.
Some families prefer using private transportation services for airport transfers. By using this option, you can book in advance, select a vehicle option that fits your travel party and luggage. You'll have direct door-to-door service to your Disney Resort Hotel, which is a stress-free way to kick off your trip!
Another option you might consider is renting a vehicle at the Orlando International Airport. This is a great choice, especially if you are planning any off-site outings, and like to have flexibility to follow your own schedule. Standard theme park parking is complimentary for all Disney Resort Hotel Guests, so you don't need to worry about any parking charges.
Ride-share services like Uber and Lyft are another possibility, but finding a vehicle that fits six passengers plus luggage can be a bit unpredictable during busier travel times.
One little money-saving tip I always love to share with fellow Canadians is to use Canadian Disney Gift Cards to help budget for your trip and save on currency conversion fees charged by credit cards. You can purchase them right here at home at most major grocery retailers and pharmacies and use them throughout Walt Disney World for things like festival food and drinks, merchandise,
dining, entertainment and even theme park tickets (don't forget to look into the
Canadian Resident Ticket Offer for extra savings). The balance is automatically converted to U.S. dollars at the time of use, using the previous night’s exchange rate. In our family, my kids sometimes receive Disney Gift Cards as birthday gifts, so it becomes a fun way for them to budget their own spending and choose a special souvenir or treat during the trip.
No matter which travel option you choose, you'll soon find yourselves together at your Disney Resort Hotel and ready to enjoy the magic! I hope this information is helpful to your planning, Sheri. If any other planning questions come to mind as your trip approaches, we're always happy to help here at
