Bright suns, Mary, and welcome back to planDisney! I love to see guests return to ask us more questions about their Walt Disney World vacations.
A couple years ago, in a galaxy far, far away, I attended the opening day of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. I got caught up in the excitement of visiting Batuu and Black Spire Outpost and decided I needed to own my very own Astromech Unit (that’s droid to you Earthlings). I went to
Droid Depot and carefully chose my pieces for an R-unit, and then assembled him and brought him to life. (His name is R2-QT, in case you were wondering). He was then put into his very own box for me to carry around for the rest of the day.
I tell you this story because I built my droid early in the day, and then carried him around. I rode some attractions where he had to be put on the ground between my feet. He didn’t fit in the cargo storage on
Star Tours - The Adventures Continue. So, I would recommend planning to build later in the day. Droids do interact with lots of things around Batuu, so you want to have enough light to enjoy that but have largely done the attractions that you had planned so you don’t run into the same trouble that I did.
When you visit the gatherers at
Savi’s Workshop and go through the ritual of choosing and building your own lightsaber, you also take your weapon with you. This also does not fit very well on some of the attractions. My son did this just a couple months ago, and it was a very cool experience. He took his lightsaber back to the room, and then flew home to Earth with it in the overhead cargo bin on the airplane a few days later.
I hope this helps with your February visit to Walt Disney World. Please come back and ask us more questions as they arise.
Happy Traveling and May the Force Be With You,
Tracy
