My family and I just booked our vacation to WDW in August (first week). My kids are 7 and 4 and I need to know how hot does it typically get at that time of year?

    Hi Lauren,

My family always travels to Walt Disney World in August as that's when our big school vacation is here in the UK and I can personally say it gets very hot especially compared to what we're used to! I just had a look at a weather chart for the Orlando area and it said the average August temperature is a high of 92 and low of 73, there is generally very high humidity too which makes it feel even hotter. Don't panic though, my family do lots of things to help us in the heat and I'll list a few for you.

    • Drink lots of water, you must stay hydrated.
    • Get to the parks early, not only is it cooler but you beat the crowds too.
    • Use a misty sprayer, they are sold throughout the parks but I like to use a Misty Mate as they don't require batteries, I bought mine at Walmart.
    • Wear a hat and lots of sun-screen.
    • Alternate outside attractions with inside air conditioned attractions.
    • Go back to your resort for a nice cooling swim in the early afternoon.
    • Don't push yourself, the heat will make you tired!

I hope that helps a bit, we've always found we've adapted to the heat pretty quickly, just be sensible and you'll have a fantastic trip,

    Jo
