Hi Marianne! Welcome to planDisney! I would like to officially nominate you for the Best Grandparent Award for 2026! Your family and your grandkids are so lucky to have you along for this incredible trip. My own kids were fortunate to have grandparents join them on many Disneyland Resort visits, and now that they are in their twenties, those memories are ones they still treasure.
Staying at the
Grand Californian is a wonderful choice! It just happens to be my favorite of the three on property Disneyland Resort Hotels. It is a treat for all ages. Adults fall in love with the beautiful lobby and elegant rooms, kids have an absolute blast at the
pools, and everyone enjoys the close proximity to
Downtown Disney District as well as the special direct entrance into
Disney California Adventure Park!
I love that you are thinking about ways to make your grandson’s birthday extra magical! Disneyland offers several
in-room celebration options, including themed balloon arrangements, gift baskets, and
celebration cakes that are sure to bring big smiles to kids and kids at heart.
I recommend considering booking
Mickey’s Tales of Adventure Breakfast Buffet at Storytellers Café inside the Grand Californian. It is a fun, lively, and delicious way to start his birthday with some favorite Disney pals! One of my favorites, and a rare character, Humphrey the Bear, makes a special appearance as part of the Grand Californian’s 25th Anniversary celebration! I checked the
availability calendar, and while I am not sure how long you are staying, there are several days with available times for the week of your arrival!
Another idea that my kids loved was picking out their own souvenir. A Disney Gift Card makes a wonderful birthday surprise and gives him the chance to choose a special keepsake all on his own.
Don't forget to pick up a complimentary birthday button for him to wear from Guest Relations! It makes the day so much more fun hearing Cast Members and fellow Guests wish him a happy birthday as he explores the hotel and parks!
